We are very much concerned about Coronavirus which is gradually penetrating Africa from various entry points while we all know that South Africa is one of the economical harbours of Africa. Due to socioeconomic factors almost all Africans want to come to South Africa.
Our main concern is South African entry points (boarder gates) because our African brothers and sisters can enter or exit our country any time with or without passports. If one of the neighbouring countries can contact the virus it will be easy to bring it to South Africa due to the above mentioned matter of boarder control.
Our members are going to be vulnerable to contact the virus because they are the first to respond to any situation.
W e heard from the media statements made by political leadership that the country is ready to control the virus but none of our members was taken to a training/workshop for the virus just to be taught about signs and symptoms.
We wonder as to whether our political leadership has considered a full control of the boarder gates before they can assure the nation.
Did they ever thought of making our members aware of the signs and symptoms of the virus including the handling/treating patients if need arises?
Did they ever thought of making medical equipments readily available for our members?
We are raising the issue of medical equipments because most provinces that are having boarder gates are not having enough medical facilities including ambulances and medical equipments like gloves.
We urge health department and political leaders to make arrangements than good media statements.
