The National Executive Committee of the South African Democratic Teachers ’Union (SADTU) is to hold a special meeting to come up with an urgent response to the spikes in COVID 19 infections.
On Thursday, 9 July 2020, SADTU wrote a letter to the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga requesting an urgent meeting to address the alarming increases in infections. The lives of teachers, learners, education support personnel and the public do matter. The Union cannot continue sending condolence messages to families of members. The office of the Minister acknowledged receipt of the letter but has not given the date for the meeting.
The Special NEC meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, 14 July 2020 at 10am.
It will thereafter be followed by a media briefing at 1pm.
Members of the media who wish to attend the briefing should RSVP via WhatsApP to SADTU Media Officer so that they can be forwarded the link.
