POPCRU on the absorption of DCS learners

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) is delighted over the progress made in absorbing the Department of Correctional Service (DCS) learners from the 2019 group who had been left idle for some considerable time.

The DCS officially appointed 881 of these learners as fully fledged correctional officials yesterday, and appointed a further four today. The rest of the learners, (38) are currently undergoing their vetting processes, with others having resigned, while others have been found to have criminal records.

Our lengthy engagements with the DCS on this matter, which have taken a toll on these learners, has yielded progress, and we remain committed to ensuring that the 1001 learners from the 2020 group will also be absorbed in the not-so-distant future.
