SADTU WOMEN’S DAY MEDIA ALERT

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) is joining the rest of the country in celebrating Women’s Month and August 9 – Women’s Day under the theme, “The Year of Charlotte Maxeke: Realizing Women’s Rights for and Equal Future”.

The national celebration will take place virtually as a webinar where the Union’s gender conveners from regional to national levels, women leaders at regional, provincial working and executive committee level, national working and executive committee levels will join to commemorate the role women have played in the struggle for the liberation of South Africa and the emancipation of women.

The Union will use the webinar to, among others, reflect on how far SADTU has progressed in uplifting women members taking into account the global generational equality theme which promotes equal participation in political life, equal participation in decision-making processes and allowing women to take advantage of their position in various spaces in all areas of life. Women leaders in the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee will have a panel discussions dissecting the Union’s progress.

The president of COSATU, Zingiswa Losi as well as SACP Central Committee member and Limpopo Education MEC Polly Boshielo will deliver messages of support from the Tripartite Alliance.

Social entrepreneur, change strategist, transformational consultant and leadership coach, Lindiwe Msiza as well as retired principal of PulaMadibogo Primary School in Polokwane, Phuti Ragophala popularly known as “TechnoGranny” because of her passion for technology, will address a panel discussion on women overcoming challenges in their generation.
