The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) has learned with great sadness about the passing on of our National Gender Coordinator Comrade Cornelia Daniels, fondly known to comrades and friends as Auntie Nellie.
Cde Cornelia passed away on Friday, the 2nd of February 2018. She was born on the 21st of October 1959 in Stellenbosch.
Having joined the SAPS, she soon became a POPCRU member and activist, with a keen interest in gender relations. She became a notable advocate of civil rights, and has immensely contributed to the growth and strength of the union in the Western Cape, where she served as the Provincial Deputy Chairperson from 1999, and later on served as the Acting Provincial Chairperson.
From 2015, she was elected the National Gender Coordinator, a position she selflessly served in until her untimely death.
Comrade Cornelia has throughout her time remained a committed cadre of the movement, entrusted with the responsibility of leading many men and women in the quest for their civil rights.
We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and the entire POPCRU membership which she served to the end.
