COSATU Free State concerned about the water shortages in Trompsburg

COSATU Free State is concerned about the water situation in Trompsburg – Kopanong Municipality as the community is now without any water supply.

What concerns us is that the community has been without adequate water supply now for quite some time; initially only the low lying areas could access water as the pressure was reduced but at this point in time water is not available in the whole area.

Initially the reports from the Municipality were that there was a problem with the valve in the pipes that are supplying the water to the area. The reports received indicates that the main problem was the debt to Bloemwater which has not been paid by the Municipality

We are concerned that poor water supply in the wake of the listeriosis outbreak ,whereby good hygiene practices are our only hope to curb the outbreak, the absence of running water would be like a slap in the face for the residents.

We know that the issues of water are not new to Trompsburg in that the Albert Nzula Hospital could not operate for almost four years after completion due to issues of water supply. We find it quite strange that the Municipality would continue to be stuck with the same problem for such a long time. We hereby make a call to the Municipality to move with speed to address this problem.
