The Congress of South African Trade Unions is deeply horrified by the news of the brazen attack on a police station in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape. We condemn this atrocious and despicable act of criminality and we urge law enforcement agencies and communities to work together to arrest the perpetrators. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the six officers that died in this horrible attack.
These criminals have declared war on the state and South Africans and their treasonous should be met with the full might of the law. We cannot allow anarchy to prevail. The killing of law enforcement officers and workplace deaths in general are starting to be a crisis for the country. The relevant departments need to leave no stone unturned to arrest this deterioration in the country.
COSATU wants all law enforcement agencies to be revamped so that they can lead the pushback against criminals. The weakening of law enforcement agencies has emboldened the criminals and left many citizens feeling unsafe. The Minister of Police needs to root criminals out of the SAPS and make sure that the fight against crime is led by people of integrity.
