DENOSA KZN taking Health Department to CCMA for not back-paying over 200 specialized nurses in the province

DENOSA is taking the provincial Health Department to CCMA this morning for refusing to back-pay over almost 200 specialized nurses since 2017.

The matter will sit today at 09h00 at CCMA offices in Durban, where 142 affected nurses will be in attendance.

“Specialized nurses have not been back-paid accordingly since 2017, following a circular that said specialized nurses will only be paid accordingly once they get appointment letters, and no longer be back-dated to the date they have obtained the qualification,” says DENOSA KZN Provincial Secretary, Mandla Shabangu.

As soon as nurses have qualified for specialization, like ICU, Theatre, PHC or orthopedic, they start working as specialized nurses, where they apply their specialty.

“This affects almost 200 specialized nurses in the province, although it appears that it may well affect about 500 nurses in total. Today, 142 members are appearing for the mediation process between us and the Department.

“By 11h30 today, we are hoping for a reward that will be in our favour,” adds Shabangu.
