POPCRU to face-off with the DCS over the safety of Poytons building

The Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) will be taking the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) head-on through the courts over their misleading instructions to DCS staff members based at its headquarters to return to Poytons building, disregarding the safety concerns and further threatening these members with dismissals.

It is our held view that the return to the building without any form of verification of its safety standards endangers the lives of these workers, and yet the DCS management has opted to harsh measures of threats instead of continuing to engage with our proposal to relocate these workers to other nearby facilities until the Poytons building has been certified to be habitable by the relevant authorities.

This noble plea would have ensured service delivery is not compromised and the DCS management is not once more pressured into utilising its well-known scare tactics that they have famously become synonymous with.

Our application for an interdict will be heard as follows;

Thursday, 4 October 2018

Labour Court, Braamfontein
