The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) in Gauteng will be hosting a gender based violence campaign under the theme “Collaborating with communities in eradicating social ills” as part of the 16 Days of activism.

This is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls, running on an annual basis from the 25th of November to the 10th of December.

Violence against women and children in our communities has become an unprecedented challenge which cuts across all cultures and at every level of society. POPCRU is of the view that every member of society should take a stand against such horrendous acts which represent a grave violation of human dignity and other such rights enshrined in the constitution of our country.

This campaign will be addressed by POPCRU 2nd Deputy President Bonny Marekwa, Gender-Based Violence survivors, representatives of various NGOs and community leaders, and will speak to moral regeneration, the importance of community-police relations, impacts of gangsterim and community’s role.
