COSATU Free State learned with shock the passing of a Municipal worker whilst on duty after falling from a refuse removal truck.

We send our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the worker. We demand an investigation of this tragedy because it should not be allowed for workers to lose their lives at the workplace.

We are disturbed by reports that the truck that was involved in the accident was not roadworthy and its licence disc was last renewed in 2016. The federation demands answers. It cannot be that government that is supposed to be the custodians of health and safety and road laws is implicated in such a blatant violation of laws. 

COSATU Free State will ensure that the Municipality is held accountable for this unpleasant incident in line with the occupational health and safety legislation and regulations!
