Limusa is very disappointed and disgusted that Toyota is promoting the so-called “Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party” which is the political party formed by Numsa. Yesterday Toyota allowed this party to campaign and recruit inside company premises in Prospecton road, Isipingo. They were even allowed to put gazebos on the company premises. Limusa sees this as a very reckless and divisive action by Toyota . Limusa and Cosatu have a clear position to support the ANC, and if political parties are allowed to campaign inside we will communicate with the ANC to come and do the same.
.
This action makes us to question the integrity of this company in decision making. This is the company which unreasonably refuses to give LIMUSA organizational rights; we now ask ourselves if that decision is not politically motivated. We will continue to fight for our rights and we are confident we will win that battle. Our understanding of Toyota policy was that political parties are not allowed to campaign inside company premises. Toyota has been telling workers not to wear regalia of their political parties but it seems as if this so-called “SRWP” is the only party allowed to do that. .
.
Toyota must be consistent. Our 2nd Deputy President, comrade Akhona Dweba was charged by Toyota working with Numsa alleging that he violated company policy and we won’t that case at CCMA level. If their policy has changed to allow political parties to campaign, then all political parties must be allowed. We are very angry at this and as the union that believes in the unity of workers; we are going to fight this unholy alliance between Toyota, Numsa and SRWP which seeks to divide workers along political lines. We believe that Numsa has abandoned the role of being a trade union and it was converted to a political party..
.
It is now clear that Irvin Jim and his clique were not genuine in their call for Cosatu to leave the ANC led alliance. This was just a plan to directly pave their way to parliament using workers. These people were claiming that the ANC is using workers as voting fodders, but today they are the ones doing that with their names on top of the list. Irvin Jim, Mbuso Ngubane and their friends must be exposed for who they really are. These are people who convert themselves according to where they are at that particular point in time like a chameleon. When it suits them they are trade union leaders, and very same people also change to be leaders of a political party when it suits them..
.
Worker’s struggle is neglected in Numsa by people who are supposed to lead the union but they invest most of their time and energy in making their way to parliament. Numsa resources instead of fighting worker issues are used to fund this political party which is meant to push the agenda of certain individual leaders at the expense of workers. We call upon LIMUSA members and all other workers who believe in the unity of workers to reject this unholy alliance. Numsa members who are not interested in the political posture taken by their leaders must join LIMUSA which is the union that is more interested in fighting for workers. .
