COSATU Free State has noted with grave concern that the workers in Star Diamonds have been sitting at home now since January 2019 and have not been paid their salaries though they are at home through the instruction of the employer.

We find it very disturbing that our members could be subjected to such an extreme and brutal action without proper engagements with the union on the issues at hand.

We would be leading the march to Star Diamonds to highlight the following issues and to demand immediate resolution of the following matter;

      Immediate resumption of the operations at the mine

      Immediate payment of the portion of salaries and benefits which remains unpaid to workers for December 2018

      Payment of outstanding workers salaries and benefits from January 2019 to date

      Immediate payment of third parties based on the monies deducted from workers salaries

We would be demanding that employer should remedy the situation within fourteen (14) days form which date we would be escalating our protest actions against the Company as the employer.

We further demand that a clear plan be put in place by both the Employer and the NUM on how to mitigate the negative atmosphere between our members and their creditors as a result of unpaid salaries and benefits.
