Cosatu Western Cape is disturbed about the latest incident in which the City of Cape Town has declared war against the homeless people in Cape Town.
We condemn this attack on the homeless people in the strongest possible terms and demand that the City of Cape Town withdraws their draconian bylaws. We cannot allow the City to bully vulnerable people who don’t have the means to defend themselves against this onslaught.
As Cosatu we call on the City of Cape Town to rather provider accommodation and or shelter and food to the homeless and vulnerable people.
We will monitor this situation very closely and the matter will be discussed at our Provincial Executive Committee Meeting which is scheduled for Thursday, 04 July 2019 to discuss possible action against the City.
We also call on the Human Rights Commission to investigate this matter, because we are of the view that the rights of our people have been infringed.
