COSATU North West and the provincial administration to finalise the matter of the Payment of security personnel

The Congress of South Africa Trade Unions in the North West province met with the Premier of the Province ,Prof Job Mokgoro and some of the provincial departments to intervene on the matter of the non-payment of security personnel ,who are contracted to the provincial administration.

This was a follow-up meeting from the meeting held on the 5th July 2019 in Rustenburg ,where parties agreed that all workers must be paid by the 12th July 2019

All departments affected have agreed that they will make sure that they pay their service providers by the said date and the process will be overseen by the provincial treasury.

As COSATU ,we are happy about the outcome of the meeting but we are disappointed in the manner which the NWDC has handled the matter.

The NWDC has shown that they do not care about the welfare of their service providers and their employees by failing to pay them on time.

COSATU also believes that the contract between Tokiso and the NWDC has elements of corruption and therefore calls on the Premier to institute a forensic investigation on the contract. If it is found that there were some irregularities , we want urgent action against the perpetrators.

We have further agreed to look into the future of the security personnel in the province;with a view of absorbing them as permanent employees of the provincial administration

COSATU welcomes the intervention made by the Premier and we anticipate good cooperation moving forward.
