The South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) applauds EMS personnel who cancelled a call after realising that they are about to get attacked. This morning at around 00h30 a crew from Mpumalanga Base went to attend a call in Mlaba village located in Ethekwini district, Kwazulu-Natal. The family who called for assistance told the crew to find a spot and wait for them for direction purposes, while they were still waiting a group of drunken men came and started to engage them. While others were still busy engaging the crew, others started shouting and insulting that’s when the crew realised that they are not safe. They cancelled the call and drove off with a damaged ambulance because the thugs threw stones at them.
As the attacks continue, we believe that MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu is rejoicing because we have been tried to arrange a meeting with her to discuss the attacks but she is not available.
