The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU), the largest union in the education and public sector, wishes all the 790 405 learners who will be writing the 2019 National Senior Certificate (Matric), best of luck.
The examinations begin on Tuesday 15 October until the 28 November in 7 416 centres across the country.
SADTU commends her members in particular and teachers in general who sacrificed their mornings, evenings and holidays providing learners with extra lessons and support in order to ensure they pass.
As part of providing additional learner support to matriculants, SADTU’s APP has previous Question Papers for learners to access for free of charge. Learners can download the APP on the cellphone using the link: https://www.appexecutable.com/mobile/download-app/appId/48ff0ac51147 and click on the Matric Help icon to get all papers.
The importance of the National Senior Certificate cannot be over-emphasised. Despite the news of the General Education Certificate to be introduced in Grade 9, the National Senior Certificate currently remains the only exit qualification that opens the doors to institutions of higher learning and the world of work. The General Education Certificate will be a transitional certificate which will allow learners to pursue Technical & Vocational streams at Colleges.
We understand this is a trying time for families of learners writing these examinations as they are filled with anxiety due to the gravitas of this class, which if passed, has the potential of changing the lives of learners for the better. We therefore urge parents to give learners their undivided support and guidance during this period.
We also call for discipline and dedication from the learners during the examination period. They urge them to use this time to focus on their studies and avoid destructive activities
We also call upon communities to cease protests that may make it hard for the learners to access schools to write exams but to rally behind schools to ensure they are safe so that learning, teaching and writing of examinations takes place
