COSATU Gauteng is hosting the Inaugural Elijah Barayi Memorial Games over five weeks starting from 26 October 2019 across the Province launching in Kwa Thema, Ekurhuleni. The games are part of the celebrations, honour and remembrance of the first President COSATU Cde Elijah Barayi.

In February, Cosatu in Partnership with the Gauteng Provincial government launched the Year of Elijah Barayi activities by declaring his gravesite a Heritage site and renaming the R51 road as Elijah Barayi road. The PEC of COSATU declared 2019 as the year of Elijah Barayi.

The games will be in conjunction with the memorial lectures by the prominent leaders and former leaders of the alliance.

The affiliates teams will be contesting for championships in the following sporting codes; Soccer and Netball. The finals will be played in West Rand Region’s Carletonville where final prizes will be awarded.
