The Congress of South African Trade Unions wishes its affiliate the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union a successful 9th National Congress starting tomorrow 05 October 2019. We hope that all delegates will contribute productive inputs and help the union develop some solutions for the country and the working class.
The union should use this congress to grapple with the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, prolonged economic stagnation and how the government’s austerity measures are weakening public service.
This congress takes place at a time when workers are under siege. The offensive against the public service needs all unions in the sector to remain battle-ready for struggles ahead.
It is also troubling to notice that the SAPS is regarded as the most corrupt institution in the country. Popcru needs to lead from the front in helping to rehabilitate the image of the SAPS and the entire justice cluster.
This congress needs to grapple with all of these challenges and come up with answers that will help our organisations to do a better job of defending our members.
Coming out of this congress, we expect to work with a united Popcru to combat unfairness in the workplace.
We wish Popcru a successful and productive session of a worker’s parliament.
Long Live Popcru! Long Live!
