COSATU mourns the death of Ntate Richard Maponya

The Congress of South African Trade Unions joins millions of South Africans to mourn the death of legendary businessman and pioneer Ntate Richard Maponya. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and his friends.

Ntate Richard Maponya was a formidable visionary who embarrassed the apartheid regime by disproving its theories about the capacity of black people. He had a defiant spirit and will always be remembered as having an immeasurable impact on promoting entrepreneurship in the black community in this country.

He embodied the characteristics of a true revolutionary and dedicated his life to making this country better. His zest for entrepreneurship and business innovation never waned throughout his long life. We hope that in these uncertain economic times, young people, especially those who are unemployed will be inspired by his legacy and realise that even under difficult circumstances, there is always hope.

Ntate Maponya thrived under the brutish and corrupt dictatorship of apartheid and went on to outlive the evil regime. His influence and legacy will remain in our hearts.

May he rest in eternal peace!
