SAEPU SUPPORTS COSATU’S MOVE TO REJECT GOVERNMENT’S ATTEMPT TO RENEGE ON IMPLEMENTING THE 2018 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

The South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) is fully behind COSATU on to rejecting the attempt by government to review Resolution 1 of 2018 that speaks about the adjustment of public service salaries over three years. As SAEPU we also reject the review because we are currently working on a roadmap to the next salary negotiations scheduled for 2021. We cannot allow Treasury to dictate terms for Bargaining because we are not going to leave it like that.

This is a clear declaration of war in the Public Service because Treasury want to destroy all the gains made by Organised Labour since the dawn of democracy. As SAEPU we must fire a warning shot especially to the speech that will be tabled today by Minister Tito Mboweni because we are not interested to re-open the wage bill agreement.

We must further remind Minister that parliament is not a bargaining chamber and what is tabled in chamber yesterday is an insult to us as public service union.

Our members are still earning peanuts, struggling with inflation and higher tax. Cutting their benefits will be impoverishing all public service workers solely because it will be a cut to the bone.
