The revolutionary Alliance in Limpopo extends warm and fraternal greetings to all the people of the province.
The government of the Republic has in the last two weeks introduced measures to curb the spread of the corona virus pandemic. The measures included declaring a state of disaster and recently a national lockdown.
Since the outbreak Corona virus has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation (WHO). So far over 900 000 people globally have been infected and over 45 000 succumbed. Our country has over 1300 infections and five mortalities to date. This pandemic poses a serious threat to humanity and can wreak havoc of untold proportions.
Like the President of the Republic has conceded, the lockdown and its measures will disrupt the normal order of social life and have far reaching consequences on the economy. However, we call on all the people of the province to adhere to the orders and measures introduced in order to save human life. We have observed with concern how some citizens in our townships and rural areas make light of these measures. There are those that continue to sell liquor and cigarettes, hang out in public spots and wander the streets. We appeal to all citizens to understand that the cost of cure is more than prevention. It is always vital to observe the precautionary methods of Washing our hands, avoid contact and shaking hands, touching mouth, eyes and nose, and Covering our mouth every time we cough or sneeze.
The revolutionary Alliance further commend the crusade led by Premier Chupu Mathabatha and his Executive Council, of visiting various points of Social Grants disbursement, to ensure that beneficiaries are adhering to the social distancing rules – one of the fundamental guidelines of fighting the Corona Virus. We in the same vain commend and appreciate the work done by great Men and Women who are providing essential service to our communities, these are waste collectors, law enforcement officials, Municipal officials, those in the health fraternity and many others. These are our heroes and heroines who deserve our undivided support and respect as a nation. We call on our people cooperate with them as they continue to devote their service to humanity during this difficult time.
The Alliance would also like to appeal to Community structures, and leaders to assist in educating and encouraging ‘our people’ about their roles and responsibilities to curb the spread of the corona virus.
We call on all our structures to intensify the war by amongst others opening operation centers and social media groups to monitor developments and advise on necessary interventions. Our MPLs, Councillors, Ward Committees, volunteers, progressive organs of civil society are called upon to participate in the social media groups so that information can be
quickly disseminated. The field workers at constituency offices should generate reports for operations centres.
The revolutionary Alliance further call on all Municipalities in the Province to put in place mitigation plans to curb the spread of the virus and establish rapid response teams in their localities
The Department of Social Development is called upon to prioritize the poor in terms of provision of food parcels, masks, sanitizers and all the necessities
Working together both as a nation and as a people we have capacity to triumph over this pandemic.
