COSATU GAUTENG PROVINCE CALL ON THE LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES TO ARREST THE ANIMAL/S WHO KILLED 14-YEAR-OLD SIMPHIWE SIBEKO

COSATU in Gauteng has learned with great alarm and sorrow of the gruesome murder of a 14-year-old, Simphiwe Sibeko, who was raped, assaulted and killed in Soweto. The COSATU Gauteng Province conveys is heartfelt and deepest condolences to the Sibeko Family of Dobsonville in Soweto.

We call upon Minister Bheki Cele to handle this matter with the urgency it deserves by ensuring that the police arrest those responsible for this gruesome act. We are noting the alarming increase in these barbaric acts during this lockdown period. Gender-Based Violence continues to worm its way up to the vulnerable especially girls and women regardless of age, creed or colour. We can’t continue to turn a blind eye against this horror and horrific behavior.

We also call upon the ministers responsible for both safety and security systems to ensure that our streets in this country become a safe place to walk around all day. This lockdown period has given an opportunity to the lawbreakers to commit their criminal acts and we say that Women and Children’s rights must be respected as per the constitution of the country.
