COSATU Free State salutes the efforts of both public and private entities and individuals to offer solidarity and practical support to the poor and most vulnerable of our society through food parcels.
We have also noted with alarm the widespread reports of corruption and inconsistencies in how food parcels are distributed by the Municipalities and Councillors in various parts of our province. We also note the reality that some of the reports may be manipulated for political reasons.
We reserve the right to demand accountability and transparency where taxpayer’s money has been used to buy food parcels.
We implore our alliance partner the ANC to adopt a standardised approach that should be followed when buying and distributing food parcels by its deployees.
The ANC cannot sit idle and watch substandard food parcels being given to the needs. This is degrading and inhumane. Factional presences and tendencies should also not be used to distribute food. Doing so is immoral, unethical and criminal and should not be tolerated.
