Clairwood EMS base personnel are encouraged not to report on duty until they are tested and the station is fumigated

The South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) is encouraging Clairwood EMS base personnel in Durban not to report on duty until they are tested and the station is fumigated. The base is temporarily closed after one staff member tested positive for Covid-19 and told personnel to go home to wait for testing day. The personnel who tested positive has since gone home to self isolate.

We hope that department will follow all necessary processes and comply, because we don’t want to see reports that Clairwood quarantine site is full of health workers after department failed to comply with health safety measures. We are saying this as the department announced earlier this week that Clairwood hospital will be the latest addition to the province’s quarantine and isolation centres.

We wish our colleague a speedy recovery.
