The Congress of South African Trade Unions joins millions of people in South Africa to mourn the death of veteran actress and member of the Order of Ikhamanga Mam Mary Thwala. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends.

Mary Thwala was a formidable actress who contributed immensely to shaping the arts and the entertainment industry in South Africa.She was a familiar face and voice for decades on our television screens and educated and entertained South Africans even during their darkest times under apartheid.

Her death represents the end of an era. She will always be remembered as a pioneering and dedicated artist, who took her craft seriously. She was versatile, exemplary, and commanded respect.

May her soul rest in peace!
