It is with great shock and sadness that we mourn the passing of Comrade Toffies Moemi. The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in the North West province is deeply saddened by his death and conveys deep and heartfelt condolences to his family, his comrades and friends.
As NEHAWU, we dip our banner in honour of this fallen, dedicated cadre of our movement, a revolutionary and an unassuming leader who served and led NEHAWU unconditionally. Cde “Toffies” as he was affectionately known, started as a shop steward before serving as a Branch Office Bearer and also served two terms as a Regional Office Bearer. In 2017 he was elected as a deputy Provincial Secretary of NEHAWU in the North West province.
He was very passionate yet humble about his contribution to the struggles of the working class and the poor. His contribution to the transformation of our society at economic, social and political level will forever be etched in our minds.
His passing takes places while the entire world is fighting the novel corona virus which has caused unprecedented damages to the economy coupled with an unacceptable number of deaths, job losses, and loss of personal income of millions of our people. In honour of Cde Toffies, NEHAWU in the North West province commits to agitate and fight for an even more improved healthcare system and the speedily implementation of the National Health Insurance [NHI].
His passing away is a huge loss and prompts us to redouble our efforts in waging the war he passed on fighting for. We shall never tire nor rest until the realisation of the society that Cde Moemi stood for. We are adamant that we shall win the fight against slave wages and unfavourable working conditions meted out to our members and workers in generally by the owners of the means of production.
We will continue to do everything possible including using resources available at our disposal to protect our members and workers from reckless employers who are exposing our members to the coronavirus.
Lala Ngoxolo Comrade Toffies, indima yakho uyidlalile, The Struggle Continues!!!
