The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Western Cape Youth Structure learnt with sadness the sudden passing of the NUM Khayelitsha Branch Youth Secretary comrade Nokhanyo “Khanyo” Mantangana. Her passing has hit the entire region with shock and trauma.
Comrade Khanyo joined Eskom in 2015 as a Tass Worker. She joined the vanguard union (NUM) and hit the ground running in the fight for advancing and bettering the working environment. Her efforts and contribution to the cause of the union and working class, in general, is greatly appreciated.
Her resilience and extraordinary leadership qualities saw her becoming the first female youth secretary of Khayelitsha branch in 2019.
Comrade Khanyo wasn’t just politically conscious, she was also an outgoing person who was full of life. Her love for people was made evident by her tireless participation in numerous community outreach programs and her willingness to always lend a helping hand.
Comrade Khanyo’s passing has left a huge void. Like a candle that burns bright, giving light and hope to others, her spirit will forever be with us.
Your heroic and undying spirit is unparalleled. You tirelessly fought for the working class. Your loyalty, dedication and valiant stand will be treasured always. Thank you for devoting your heart, sharing your life and impacting on our lives. It has been the greatest of honour serving with you. You have earned our eternal gratitude.
We urge all progressive forces to observe a moment of silence in honour and respect of comrade Khanyo. May her revolutionary soul rest in peace.
