COSATU Free State is pleased by the Arbitration Award issued against Star Diamonds instructing them to reinstate workers and pay them their salaries. This is a victory by the workers and their union the National union of Mineworkers.

This comes after the management of Star Diamond told not workers not to come back to work after the festive break in 2019. These hardworking workers were callously told through an SMS message to stay at home forever.

The deliberate flouting of procedures and the substance of the dismissal were just too loud to be ignored. We salute and commend the NUM for representing its members and defending their jobs.

We call upon the employer not to prolong the suffering of these workers. They need to be paid their monies and be reinstated back to work immediately.
