COSATU MPUMALANGA STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE CONDUCT OF MPUMALANGA PREMIER AT THE FUNERAL OF CDE JACKSON MTHEMBU

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in Mpumalanga condemns in strongest terms the behaviour displayed by the Mpumalanga Premier Honourable Ms Refilwe Mtsweni – Tsipane who was seen on National TV attending the funeral of our former Late Minister in the Presidency – Mr Jackson Mthembu, not wearing a mask in the public vicinity.

COSATU consider the Premier as a role model whose behaviour will influence the attitude and behaviour of ordinary citizens and public.  The non-wearing of the mask in a public gathering will undermine the objectives that we all stand by, which is to mitigate and reduce the adverse impact of the pandemic on human health.

We also remind the Premier that wearing of a face mask is mandatory for every person under the adjusted alert level 3 lockdown regulations.  Any person who fails to comply is liable to a fine or a period of imprisonment, not exceeding 6 months or both.

We therefore as the federation call for the full might of the law to take precedents and justice to prevail.
