COSATU Eastern Cape pays tribute to a political activist and prominent businessman, Comrade Barvant “Barry” Makhan

Congress of South African Trade Unions in the Eastern Cape received the news of the passing away of Comrade Barvant “Barry” Makhan with deep sadness. Losing an activist of his calibre at this moment is a blow.

Comrade Barry Makhan had an impressive track record in pursuing freedom and equality for all and served as the ANC Councillor in Buffalo City Council in his political life. His humility and moral uprightness earned him respect in his interaction with communities, both as an activist and as a businessman. Comrade Barry always set high standards for himself and autographed his work with excellence. He was a community builder who did good without seeking recognition or glory.

He was a selfless person, a humanitarian who would give without expecting anything in return. He played a central role in mobilisation with his art in the media and printing industry. Part of the legacy he leaves behind are those he has mentored in politics and in business.

COSATU in the Eastern Cape conveys heartfelt condolences to the Makhan family, relatives. friends, staff, business community and the Mass Democratic Movement.
