COSATU in the Province of KwaZulu Natal congratulates NEHAWU in the Province for convening a very successful, fruitful, and united Provincial Congress. The three-day Congress was held under the theme “Strengthen Workplace Organization, Deepen Class Consciousness and Advance Internationalism”, from the 6th – 8th April 2021.
The Federation was inspired by the high discipline and comradely spirit displayed by delegates. We were further inspired by the union’s commitment to deepening international solidarity and advancing the National Democratic Revolution as an immediate route to socialism.
We welcome that the union also reaffirmed its determination to robustly challenge the ruling party to respect and honour the rights of workers, and also resolved to contribute towards strengthening COSATU and unifying its affiliates.
The NEHAWU Congress also instructed the union to build a strong organisation through building the capacity of the union leadership at all levels in order to tackle issues affecting workers. This includes renewing its commitment towards protecting frontline workers and advancing their demands. We are happy that the union vowed to continue to push the government to speed the vaccination rollout etc.
COSATU KZN congratulates the collective leadership that was elected by the congress and salute them for convening such a well-organized Congress. We wish the outgoing leaders well in their future endeavours. The newly elected collective leadership is as follows:
- Comrade Siyanda Zungu – Provincial Chairperson,
- Comrade Nobukhosi Xulu – Deputy Provincial Chairperson,
- Comrade Ncebakazi Malima – Provincial Treasurer,
- Comrade Ayanda Zulu – Provincial Secretary, and
- Comrade Ntokozo Nxumalo – Deputy Provincial Secretary.
We look forward to working with the new leadership to take the worker’s struggles forward. The Provincial leadership of COSATU remains committed to working closely with all affiliated unions of the Federation to push back against the offensive directed at the workers and the working class.
