The Congress of South African Trade Unions has identified workplace occupational health and safety as one of the campaigns to be prioritized for this year, 2021. This is necessitated by widespread non-compliance to occupational health and safety by some employers both in the private and public sectors.
Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 provides for the health and safety of persons at work and for the health and safety of persons in connection with the use of plant and machinery; the protection of persons other than persons at work against hazards to health and safety arising out of or in connection with the activities of persons at work.
It is within that context that the Congress of South African Trade Unions in Limpopo will be embarking on demonstrations for compliance to workplace occupational health and safety on the 11 May 2021. The demonstrations will be targeting the following workplaces
- Fishaways Library Gardens – Polokwane @09h00
- Department of Home Affairs Library Gardens – Polokwane @10h00
- Roots Butchery, corner Market and Jorissen Streets – Polokwane @11h00
- Seshego Pharmaceutical Depot – Seshego @13h00
Demonstrators will converge at COSATU Limpopo Provincial Office (Mark Shope House), 79 Biccard Street at 08h30 and then proceed to the above workplaces to submit memorandums of demands.
Media houses are invited to cover the demonstrations.
