The South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) welcomes Gauteng health’s decision to declare Dukhatole a no-go area zone for EMS Personnel following an attack on Germiston base crew over the weekend.

On Friday, 07 May a crew from Germiston base was called to attend a scene in Dukhatole informal settlement were a patient suffered gunshots. Upon the arrival while they were busy with the patient, unknown armed men started shooting at their direction, and unfortunately one crew member was shot and rushed to hospital.

This attack is the third incident in space of a month. Earlier this month a crew member was attacked by armed men while on duty where she suffered leg injuries and forced to use crutches. Gauteng health reported that in another separate incident a shift leader and her crew were attacked by community members in Magalies while responding to a distress call.

We would like to take this moment and send our heartfelt condolences to the family of a patient who lost their life on the scene and wishes speedy recovery to personnel who is admitted in hospital.
