SADTU EC MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW SG

The Eastern Cape South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU-EC) Wishes to express excitement, pleasure and Support in the appointment of the New SG ( Dr Naledi Mbude). We are delighted as we have been under a dark cloud as the Province since the demise of Cde Kiro T.S. Kojana (May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace so as to Rise in God’s Glory). The Rotational acting arrangement has had its own challenges and a serious threat to stability and to the hard earned legacy of the Late SG.  This had been a frustration in relation to accountability and essential work that had to be done efficiently and diligently. We wish to appreciate the role that the office of both the Premier and the MEC, for education in the province, played in being responsive to this National duty. We say this fully aware that vacuum is always vulnerable to the matter and we can now confidently say it has indeed been evaded. We cannot fail to salute our Cadres both school based and office based for their calmness during this very trying time of our term of office.  This we say in spite of all Covid-19 related challenges wherein we had to brave the situation without a permanent SG. However, all has been accomplished with humility.

We therefore now unreservedly commit to support and work with the New SG at all times and all the way for the benefit of the children of this province as well as the entire Eastern Cape Community. This is informed by our understanding of education being a societal matter.  We Congratulates her in her New Position during the year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke and her being a female in her own right. We congratulate her because we view her appointment as responsive to what Thomas Sankara once said, “Comrades! There is no true social revolution without the liberation of women”. Furthermore, this is happening at the time when we all condemn GBV being biased towards women in the country as well as in the Global Village. We view this step as a very progressive step taken by the OTP. We hope and trust that she is fully aware of the task at hand and  challenges that go with it as she is no stranger in our Sector especially Eastern Cape Department of Education. SADTU EC wish her well.

In SADTU we trust, for you will never walk alone

Aluta continua!!!!!!
