The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) in the Limpopo Province is outraged over the fatal killing of Warrant-Officer Mogokolodi Cleopas Digama, who was attached to the Apel Police Station, under the Fetakgomo Municipality on Thursday night.
Warrant-Officer Digama was shot and killed while in full police uniform. This underlines the seriousness of the scourge of police killings ravaging the province and the nation at large. It has become more urgent for South Africans to come together and expose those thugs who are hell-bent on creating mayhem and anarchy within our society.
POPCRU in the Limpopo Province passes its profound and heartfelt condolences to the Digama family, friends and colleagues. We wish them strength during this difficult phase, and encourage comrades to remain steadfast in this time of unrelenting assault on law enforcement officials.
We reiterate our call for laws to be amended, in dealing harshly with those who would be found and convicted of committing such heinous crimes. We further call on society to take keen interest in matters related to law enforcement, as the fight against criminality will not be won by the police alone. It is only through joint efforts that we can create safer communities.
