The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] wishes its federation, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), a successful 7th Central Committee [CC] which will be convened from the 20th until the 23rd September 2021.
The CC is convened under the theme “Deepen the Back to Basics Campaign, Consolidate the struggle for the NDR and Advance the struggle for Socialism”, as mid-term platform to assess progress made on the implementation of resolutions of the 13th National Congress.
As NEHAWU, we expect a Central Committee that will be highly characterised by in-depth analysis on the State of our Revolution (NDR and Socialism) and robust deliberations to strengthen the ability of COSATU to be a militant, fighting and a campaigning federation for workers’ demands in all sectors and in the struggles for the working class in general.
In this regard, the CC should emerge with vigour to pursue the NDR to the fullest from this current level of stagnation by reawakening the primary motive force of this revolution (the working class) to take its rightful place by being at the helm of the NDR in order to drive the interest of the working class which is in majority in society.
The national union [NEHAWU] will play its role through discussions and lobbying affiliates of the federation to ensure that COSATU emerges more united, stronger and capable of representing all workers of South Africa along their interests and aspirations particularly in collective bargaining, workers’ rights and creating conducive working environment recognising the critical role workers are playing at the point of service.
Our union will encourage through its contributions the affiliates of the federation to focus on defending the NDR by keeping it to its proper revolutionary orientation, advancing internationalism, defending collective bargaining and advancing gender struggle and most importantly advance the struggle for socialism.
As NEHAWU, we have prepared thoroughly for our participation in this Central Committee and our entry point will be about strengthening and uniting our giant Federation to ensure that it continues to champion the interests of workers at all material times.
NEHAWU wishes COSATU a successful 7th Central Committee.
