COSATU Free State commemorates Workers Day in Trompsburg

COSATU Free State is moving full speed ahead with the preparations for Workers Day event to be commemorated in Trompsburg in the Xhariep District. Over the past few months, the Federation has ben focussing of making sure that the logistical preparations for the event are handled and that the event goes on without a glitch. That part is on finalization stages now.

We are now in the process of mobilizing our members to attend the event. We have several objectives with the upcoming event, and we would like to use as a launch pad for our battle to save jobs as well as to defend organizational rights with collective bargaining being an apex priority on the list.

We would also utilize the platform to encourage our members to vaccinate against Covid-19. We would like our members to stand against gender-based violence and sexual harassment. We are encouraging our members to advocate for the LGBTQI+ rights and to stand against any form of discrimination both in the society and in the workplace.

We would reflect on the current state of governance of both provincial and local government. We are to be clear on the program to bring about stability in terms of the administration and political leadership of both spheres of government including the state entities. We will engage in all these matters guided by the resolutions of the 5th Provincial Congress which took place earlier this year.

We continue to believe that the government and business can do more to create more decent jobs. We believe that the state should continue to play an active role in making sure that jobs are created as espoused in our belief of what a developmental state should immerse itself upon.

We therefore hereby call on all workers both employed and unemployed to attend the event and hear for themselves what the Federation will be doing to fight for the betterment of their lives.

The event will take place on Sunday, 01 May 2022 at Trompsburg, Caleb Motshabi Stadium. The program is starting at 09H00 next to the Municipal Offices with a health walk and the rally starting at 10H00.

The struggle continues!
