The Congress of South African Trade Unions wishes the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) a successful and productive 11th National Congress at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, in Cape Town, starting today.
The Federation wishes all delegates constructive deliberations geared towards uniting the organisation, and also fostering solidarity amongst the working class.
We remind the delegates that we have a record unemployment rate of 46% and also the most unequal country in the world. Workers are dealing with attacks on collective bargaining, experiencing wage cuts and massive job losses.
The balance of class forces or the relation of social forces in terms of the political economy is decisively in favour of monopoly capital. The labour movement needs a strong and united NUMSA to contribute to the pushback against the class warfare waged by monopoly capital at local and international level.
We wish all the delegates cordial and productive deliberations.
