The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)in Mpumalanga will on the 7th of October 2022, embark on numerous marches across the province to commemorate the International Day for Decent Work.
The day is marked to address factors that impede workers’ rights, such as conditions of employment, safety and all other issues related to their physical and mental integrity in the workplace.
Workers in Mpumalanga have no option but to go on strike to demand action to bridge the wage gaps as this is depriving households and communities of any chance of a decent life and a decent future.
The Federation will deliver the memorandum of demands to both the MEC of Agriculture, Land Affairs and Rural Developments and the Premier of the province respectively. COSATU will use the protest action to demand for responses of the previously presented memorandums to both the recipients.
The following will be raised during the day:
- Campaign against corruption
- Fight against job losses/ retrenchment
- Issues of land restitution and settlement for all
- Plight against farm workers and farm dwellers
- Effective policy to be implemented to regulate illegal migrants
- The persistent upsurge of the rate of poverty, unemployment, and inequality
- To fight the high-rate of job losses and retrenchments
- To push for the advancements of measures to stabilise and sustain our SOE’S and other economic drivers
- To fight against the informalization of work such as labour brokering and casualization
- To defend collective bargaining and respect of signed collective agreements
- Provision of quality service delivery in municipalities and quality health care for all
- Austerity measures by Treasury
- Petrol Hikes through government levies
- Electricity
- Tax reduction
- Decent work and insourcing of basic service for all
- Social compact negotiation process to be concluded
