COSATU congratulates Mr Panyaza Lesufi on his election as the new Premier of Gauteng and welcomes the newly appointed Members of the Executive Council (MEC)

The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in Gauteng congratulates Comrade Panyaza Lesufi on his election as the new Premier of Gauteng. For the past eight years, Comrade Lesufi has done a sterling job in his position as the MEC of Education. We therefore strongly believe in his capabilities and have faith in his ability to lead the Gauteng Provincial Government and continue from where the former Premier, David Makhura left off.

His vision of fighting corruption, taking service delivery to townships, and building a state bank and pharmaceutical company will go a long way in restoring lost confidence from the majority of our people.

COSATU in Gauteng also welcomes the appointment of new MECs and the reshuffling of the provincial cabinet. We have noted the renaming and changing or adding of mandates of department such as finance and health. COSATU will engage the ANC and the Premier to be properly briefed on the new mandates and the unbundling of other departments.

As much as we welcome and appreciate the new vision of the new Premier, we are slightly skeptical about some of his plans given the limited period that is left for the sixth administration to execute its duties.
