The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) congratulates and welcomes the newly elected top 7 ANC officials elected at the National Elective Congress held at Nasrec, Gauteng Province.
The NUM views the electoral outcome as a reflection of democracy within the ANC. It is important for the new leadership to hit the ground running and focus on uniting the ANC, dismantling factions and cleansing the organisation of corruption.
This outcome is not just a Democratic milestone but a mandate from the ANC branches to have a decisive leadership that is supposed to be unapologetic when it comes to implementing conference resolutions.
Failure in implementing such conference resolutions will definitely further cripple the ANC deeper into leadership crisis and that on its own will be a betrayal to the people of this country who expect to see this renewed mandate carried forward.
The election of a formidable Secretariat will surely stabilise this important office of the ANC to make sure that the office is being run efficiently and diligently.
We further appreciate the decision taken by the ANC delegates in beefing up the Secretariat office by the election of two Deputy General Secretaries. What excites us more is that amongst the three there are two capable women.
We also appreciate the election of the new Treasurer General who happens to be a woman since the ANC came back from exile. This also is a historical milestone for the liberation movement.
As the NUM, we are expecting to see the plight of ÀNC employees being addressed with immediate effect. The ANC must strive to make sure that its employees are taken care of since they constitute the key motive force of the National Democratic Revolution.
These employees are cadres in their own right and most importantly they are workers in their own right.
