The Congress of South African Trade Unions and its affiliate, the South African Municipal Workers Union are deeply shocked and devasted by the continued reign of terror that is prevailing in Mkhondo Local Municipality, which is characterised by political killings. The recent spike of killings of ANC councillor Mr Sibongiseni Ntshangase, Mr. Sizwe Mbingo and Mr. Khumalo bear testimony to the plight we have raised and state of lawlessness.
Noting the above situation as the trade union movement we make our call that such horrific state of affairs cannot be left unattended. It has been far too long, in a country with law enforcement agencies and justice systems.
Both COSATU and SAMWU in Mpumalanga view this abhorrent condition adverse and disruptive to the conducive working environment and instilling fear to ordinary people in a way that they are unable to freely express themselves and exercise their rights.
The factions and divisions within the governing party cannot be allowed to make our people to live in fear. This should be corrected by the affected parties.
We further call for the law enforcement to prevail and protect our citizens and workers from this horror.
Lastly, that the perpetrators of this barbaric incidents are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
