Media Invite: SAMWU and municipal workers to march to the Emfuleni Local Municipality on Tuesday 31 January

Following several recent events which have resulted in the Emfuleni Local Municipality failing to consistently pay workers in time and the general collapse of service delivery within the municipality, the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) along with municipal workers will be marching to the municipality to deliver a memorandum of demands.

Some of the issues leading to workers taking to the street includes;

1.     Continuous attachment of the municipality’s bank account by Eskom and other service providers.

2.     The outsourcing of municipal services.

3.     Rampant fraud and corruption in the municipality.

4.     The collapse of service delivery.

5.     High vacancy rate.

Members of the media are hereby invited to attend and cover the event which will take place as follows;

Date    : Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

Time    : From 09:00

Venue : Workers to gather at Livingstone Boulevard, next to the library where they will proceed to the municipal offices.
