SAMWU welcomes election of Dr Murunwa Makwarela as Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane

The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in  Tshwane Region has noted the election of Dr Murunwa Makwarela  as the new Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane.

This was after the former Executive Mayor Cllr Randal Williams had resigned after a damming audit finding that showed irregular and Wasteful  expenditure totaling 10 billion

It is unfortunate that the City of Tshwane had 5 Executive Mayors since 2016. This has created a lot of instability in the City of Tshwane and there is a need to reverse that unfortunate situation

It is our belive that the newly elected Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane will deliver a people centered government which will be in the best interest of Tshwane residents. As SAMWU we demand that the new Mayor must deliver on the following;

a) That the Mayor work towards creating  financial sustainability.

b)  That the outstanding 3.5% salary increase owed to workers be paid.

c) That the City pay the outstanding 9.5 in respect of benchmarking.

d) That the issue of Metro Police Constable/Sergeant be finalised.

e) That the new Mayor refrain from making statements that seeks to  privatizate municipal entities.

As workers we wish the new Executive Mayor  well in his responsibilities. We also calling on political  parties represented in Council to put aside their political differences and focus on restoring glory days of the City of Tshwane.
