The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Western Cape has learnt with shock about the untimely death of Cde Maurencia Gillon, a member of the African National Congress in Parliament in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
Comrade Maurencia also served as a member of the Interim Provincial Committee in the Western Cape.
COSATU extends its heartfelt condolences to the Gillon family and the broader ANC family.
She was a dedicated and exceptional leader who made a huge impact in the lives of her constituency, her community, comrades and workers in general.
We have lost a dear friend, comrade, and a mother. Comrade Maurencia was a true activist and indeed a hero in her own right. Her life epitomizes the best of what a good Leader should be. We have lost a tireless fighter for social justice and a fearless warrior who inspired all of us.
She always reminded us that the best leaders are those that are ready and willing to serve the people unconditionally.
COSATU dips its spear to the fallen hero that was Cde Maurencia. Her place and seat at our meetings and events will be empty, but her legacy will forever live in our hearts.
Hamba Kahle Cde. Maurencia.
