NUM IS DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE BRUTAL KILLING OF ITS TRUSTED SECURITY OFFICER MTHOKOSIZI DLABA SHEZI

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has received with heavy heart the news of the sudden passing of its long serving security officer Mthokosizi Dlaba Shezi who was brutally shot whilst entering his home in Zola, Soweto on Friday night.

Comrade Shezi was shot and killed as he was arriving at his home coming from the NUM’s two days long Special National Congress which was held at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg.

Comrade Shezi is one of the longest serving security officers in the NUM. He serviced the union as a security officer attached to the office of the former President Senzeni Zokwana. He went on to service the union also attached to the office of the former President Piet Matosa. During his untimely death, he was servicing the office of the NUM Deputy President Phillip Vilakazi.

“Death has once again robbed us as the NUM of one loyal young man who had visions and dreams like any other young men in this country. Comrade Shezi was always here during difficult times. He was very loyal in safeguarding the NUM and its entire membership, including the staff members.

We are being robbed of someone who was everything to this union. He was never a violent person”, said Phillip Vilakazi, NUM Deputy President.

We salute Comrade Shezi for his dedication and unwavering commitment to serve the NUM and its membership.

The NUM conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. We wish them strength and fortitude as they mourn their loved one.

May the Soul of Comrade Shezi Rest in Revolutionary Peace.
