COSATU GAUTENG STATEMENT ON THE TWO BODIES THAT WERE FOUND IN SOWETO

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is deeply shocked and saddened by the heinous murder of two young boys aged five and six in Soweto. The brutal nature of their deaths, with one child found with a slit throat at Moroka Dam and the other discovered in White City, is truly horrific. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time.

We are alarmed by the increasing incidents of violence against children in our communities. It is unacceptable that innocent children are falling victim to such senseless acts of brutality. We urge law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible for this despicable crime are brought to justice swiftly and that the full might of the law is applied.

We also call on communities to work together with law enforcement agencies in preventing and addressing crime. We need to create safe environments for our children to grow and thrive, and it is our collective responsibility to protect them from harm.

As COSATU, we stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and the community of Soweto during this painful time. We call on all South Africans to join us in condemning such acts of violence against children and to work towards a safer society where all children can live without fear. We cannot allow our children to become victims of crime, and we demand justice for these innocent souls.

We call on the relevant authorities to prioritize the safety and protection of children, and to implement measures to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. COSATU will continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of children and will work towards creating a safer society for all. Our children deserve to grow up in a world where their lives are valued and protected.
