COSATU NORTHERN CAPE IS GEARING-UP FOR THE 2023 MAY DAY RALLY

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Northern Cape will be embarking on an intensified build-up programme as a final push towards a revolutionary and successful May Day rally in Bethlehem (Free State).

The 2023 May Day coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the 2003 Saulspoort Bus Disaster where 51 workers from Sol Plaatje Municipality in the Northern Cape lost their lives when they were on their way to attend a May Day rally in the Free State. COSATU has therefore decided to commemorate and dedicate this year’s rally to those workers by inviting their next of kin including the survivors of the disaster in honour of the gallantry work and their devotion to the struggle of the workers against the brutality of capitalism orchestrated by employers.

The province will be joined by COSATU president, Comrade Zingiswa Losi and Central Executive Committee (CEC) members, and in addition to the current workplace-based programmes, will from Tuesday, 25th April 2023, host a number of activities including the following:

25th April 2023                                  –                              General meetings at Kimberley City Hall (08h00) and Transnet Yard (16h00)

26th April 2023                                  –                              Wreath laying Ceremony at Kimberley West End Cemetery (15h00) followed by a gala dinner at 18h00 (with families of the deceased and survivors).

27th April 2023                                  –                              Community out-reach programme in Galeshewe

The mobilisation programme will continue at all workplaces until the last day before May Day and about 1500 workers and members of the Alliance will join the rally in Bethlehem on the 01st of May 2023.
