DENOSA and Health Department in Mpumalanga to hold International Nurses Day commemoration event in Ermelo on 12 May 2023

MBOMBELA – As 12 May marks International Nurses Day (IND), the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Mpumalanga and the Mpumalanga Department of Health will co-host the International Nurses Day commemoration event, which will see around 1 200 nurses from all districts of the province gather at the El Shaddai Tabernacle International Church in Ermelo.

This year’s International Nurses Day commemoration is held under the theme: *“Our Nurses. Our Future.”* The event will be used to reflect on the future of Nursing and Midwifery to address the global health challenges and improve global health for all.

As the International Council of Nurses (ICN) is the custodian of the International Nurses Day (IND) event, DENOSA as the only affiliate of ICN in South Africa will be hosting the event on behalf of ICN.

This IND will be commemorated while the province is still mourning the death of two nurses, who are blood sisters, and their brother who were brutally killed by a partner of the elder sister and a police in Bushbuckridge in a month where we should celebrate the good work done by the nurses in the continent.

The event will be addressed by the MEC of Health in Mpumalanga, Hon. Sasekani Manzini, and the Deputy General Secretary of DENOSA, Ms Dimakatso Sebopa, on behalf of the ICN.

The event will commence with a nurses walk at 08h30 from corner Pet and Church streets to the  venue of the event.

*Members of the media are cordially invited to the event to report.*
